Department of Transportation/National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration–
LC Technologies received a contract to develop a Driver
Eye Monitor for use in a Drowsy Driver Detection and Warning
System. This system will be housed in vehicle cabs to warn
and alert drivers when they lose alertness on the road.
The system will monitor the driver’s eye point-of-regard
and percentage of eyelid closure, reliably, in real time,
under all anticipating driving conditions. A long-range
program is envisioned to predict the onset of fatigue, drowsiness
and lack of attention in drivers, pilots, air traffic controllers
and others involved in critical activities where there is
a concern about safety and human error. The FAA, as a strong
leader in this program, is particularly interested in the
Eyegaze technology and its potential to play a major role
in future fatigue prediction systems.
Department of the Navy
– The company was awarded a contract from the Department
of the Navy to devise a solution to the ambient light problem
in IR image processing.
National Institutes of Health
– LC Technologies, Inc., received a grant from the National
Institute of Child Health and Human Development to complete
the device that will provide a substantial increase in the
Eyegaze System’s tolerance to head movement.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
– The company participated in a Technology Cooperation Agreement
with the NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory, to develop key
optical, electronic and manufacturing capabilities for the
design and fabrication of miniaturized and versatile devices.
